New push for doctors to report adverse drug reactions

Article Abstract:

The Food and Drug Administration is introducing a program to encourage physicians to report adverse drug reactions. In addition, the American Medical Assn (AMA) has prepared an informational paper declaring that physicians have a responsibility to report such drug reactions. The AMA will vote on the paper in Jun 1993. Physician reporting is important because drugs undergo limited testing before they are marketed, and such testing often excludes groups such as women and the elderly. Drug testing seldom lasts longer than three years.
