New therapeutic approaches for multiple sclerosis

Article Abstract:

New computational methods and emerging high-throughput technologies that characterize variations in DNA, RNA, proteins and metabolites to lead in a period of intense pathophysiologic investigation have synergized the progress in the understanding of the immunology of multiple sclerosis. This will begin to define subsets of patients with different forms of demyelinating disease, which will prove valuable, as it will lead to customized immunotherapy to the underlying pathophysiologic processes of individual patients.

Risk alleles for multiple sclerosis identified by a genomewide study

Article Abstract:

A genomewide association study is conducted to identify alleles associated with the risk of multiple sclerosis. Results state that alleles of interleukin-2 receptor [alpha] gene and interleukin-7 receptor [alpha] gene and those in the HLA locus are identified as heritable risk factors for multiple sclerosis.
