Article Abstract:

The Tanzanian government allied with outside groups launched a successful health promotion initiative on sanitation and water in the the Three Lakes Region. Children were prey to many preventable disease due to unsanitary water and waste facilities. Schools, parents, and children were all participants.

Mass media has a powerful hold over the minds of the world's people. This attraction should be harnessed so that health promotion can be presented in a popular manner to get results. Several successful examples are cited including a 1970 Mexican soap opera which openly dealt with unwanted pregnancies.
