A case study of a patient who receives no food or drink by mouth and has total parenteral nutrition at home is presented. The patient manages her treatment very well, but feels that losing control of her eating function has caused her to lose control of a large part of her life.

Article Abstract:

The experiences of patients who are unable to have any sustenance by mouth are presented. It is suggested that nursing staff and others can sometimes be insensitive to the great cravings for food and drink that can be suffered by these patients.
