Nitrite reduction to nitric oxide by deoxyhemoglobin vasodilates the human circulation

Article Abstract:

The vasodilator properties and mechanisms for bioactivation of nitrite in the human forearm are evaluated. Experimental results predict a new physiological function of hemoglobin as a nitrite reductase, potentially contributing to hypoxic vasodilation.

Hydrogen acts as a therapeutic antioxidant by selectively reducing cytotoxic oxygen radicals

Article Abstract:

A study report suggests that hydrogen gas has a potential to act as an antioxidant in preventive and therapeutic applications as it could reach and react with cytotoxic reactive oxygen species (ROS) and protect against oxidative damage.

The hydrogen highway to reperfusion therapy

Article Abstract:

A study report suggests that highly diffusible hydrogen gas could target intracellular sources of reactive oxygen species and dose-dependently inhibit reperfusion-induced oxidative damage.
