No doctor in the house

Article Abstract:

The Ancoats Community Clinic, Manchester, England, is the first minor injuries treatment center wholly operated by nurses. It opened in Mar 1989 against much opposition from hospital doctors and general practitioners and treated almost 20,000 cases in 1991, many of which were referred by local GPs. The clinic handles immunizations, venepuncture, ear syringing, cervical smears and stitching. The clinic also has 1,043 people registered on its confidential needle exchange program. Five district nurses and three health visitors are attached to the clinic.
