Nurses' perceptions of the role of liaison mental health nurse

Article Abstract:

An evaluation of the work of liaison mental health nurses (LMHN) and how they are viewed by other nurses found their additional counselling skills were valued and they were seen as offering an extra service to the work of staff on a ward. It was considered the LMHNs had a closer relationship with patients particularly as they did not have to give the patients any treatment. They also helped and supported staff dealing with difficult patients. The study involved an interview lasting one hour of a single focus group consisting of nurses working on a haematology ward.
