Nurses should be ready to give bereavement care

Article Abstract:

Bereavement care, which also involves knowledge about how to register the death, obtain a death certificate and other practicalities in addition to breaking the news of death of a patient tactfully to his family, should form a more substantial part of nurse training but the reality is that many issues need to be covered in that time. The onus is therefore on the nurse to maintain her competence and professional development with private study, supervised practice, and reflection on experience because relatives of the dead person deserve as high a standard of care as the patient.
