Nursing and Medical Student Teaming for Service Learning in Partnership with the Community: An Emerging Holistic Model for Interdisciplinary Education and Practice

Article Abstract:

Health care education can be enhanced through culturally sensitive community-based training. Service learning provides medical and nursing students with experience in working with individuals from different cultures, promoting health education in community settings, and collaborating with other medical professionals. Partnerships with communities also offer students an opportunity to learn interdisciplinary skills.

Interdisciplinary Education in Clinical Ethics: A Work in Progress

Article Abstract:

Georgetown University offers an interdisciplinary curriculum that provides studies in clinical ethics. The courses enable graduate nursing students and medical students to collaborate in clinical decision making. Through interdisciplinary instruction, both medical and nursing students are able to draw on each others' experiences and expertise to review and resolve decision-making dilemmas.
