OSHA under Clinton: what to expect

Article Abstract:

The changes in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) under Bill Clinton may involve the OSHA head, policy direction and basic statutes of operations. Replacement of Acting Asst Sec Dorothy Strunk is predicted to take place since she unfortunately was not able to prove her abilities when she started to work in OSHA during the 1992 presidential campaign. Enforcement and standards policies are also predicted to change with the reintroduction of comprehensive OSHA reform bills in Congress.

Proposed bill boosts federal-employee protection

Article Abstract:

Minnesota Representative Gerry Sikorski is sponsoring the Federal Employees Occupational Safety and Health Act (HR-3149). The bill is intended to give more protection to federal workers from hazards to their health and safety in the work environment. Basic features of HR-3149 include the granting of rights to employees to refuse work in places perilous to their health and safety, and to file lawsuits against agencies which violate the bill's provisions.

OSHA's hot sheet

Article Abstract:

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) sent warning letters to 12,500 employers in April, 1999 because of their high work-related injury and illness rates. The names of these companies were also listed on the agency's website to notify them of a future inspection. Despite these warnings, OSHA still found several of these employers failing to take steps towards compliance and continuing with their violations.
