Oh, come all ye frazzled: dealing with holiday stress doesn't mean your healthful habits have to unravel; this clinical psychologist tells you how to stay on track

Article Abstract:

The holidays in December and January produced unwelcomed stress because people place unrealistic demands upon themselves. It is not practical to try to maintain a perfect diet, but it is acceptable to stay as close as possible to personal guidelines. The occasional holiday indulgence is not a bad idea or practice, if the normal routine can be resumed.

The dreaded plateau

Several common factors determine that the curve for weight loss is not a straight line. Knowing what causes the plateaus in weight loss will enable a dieter to better reach her weight goal. Factors to anticipate include menstrual water bloating, and an easing up on the regime from time to time.

Losing weight, losing friends?

Many women will have a hard time finding support and encouragement from friends during weight-loss programs. Often, jealousy and alienation will result from any successful change in weight, diet, looks, or personality.
