Outbreaks of Multidrug-Resistant Salmonella Typhimurium Associated With Veterinary Facilities--Idaho, Minnesota, and Washington, 1999

Article Abstract:

Outbreaks of Salmonella in Idaho, Minnesota, and Washington occurred in 1999 among the employees and clients of veterinary clinics. This illustrates that Salmonella, which is normally transmitted by contaminated food, can also be transmitted directly from sick animals to their owners and handlers.

Fatal case of unsuspected diagnosed from a blood culture- Minnesota, 2003

Article Abstract:

Pertusis is a prolonged cough illness caused by bacteria Bordetella pertussis and associated typically with an inspiratory paroxysmal cough. A fatal case of unsuspected B. pertusis infection in an adult and rare occurrence of B. pertusis isolated from blood is reported.

Human Rabies--California, Georgia, Minnesota, New York, and Wisconsin, 2000

Article Abstract:

The cases of five people who died from rabies in the US are described. The deaths occurred in the Fall of 2000, making these the first human rabies cases diagnosed in the US since December 1998.
