P12Kgamma inhibition blocks glomerulonephritis and extends lifespan in a mouse model of systemic lupus

Article Abstract:

The use of inhibitors of phosphoionositide 3-kinase (PI3K) gamma, a lipid kinase that regulates inflammation, in the MRL-Ipr mouse model of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is examined. Treatment reduced glomerulonephritis and prolonged lifespan, suggesting that P13Kgamma might be a useful target in the treatment of chronic inflammation.

Periostin induces proliferation of differentiated cardiomyocytes and promotes cardiac repair

Article Abstract:

Extracellular periostin has induced the reentry of differentiated mammalian cardiomyocytes into the cell cycle. It is shown that periostin and the pathway that it regulates have provided a target for innovative strategies to treat heart failure.

The cell cycle inhibitor p21 controls T-cell proliferation and sex-linked lupus development

Article Abstract:

Mice who are deficient in the cell-cycle regulator p21 develop symptoms similar to women who have lupus. The symptoms include autoantibodies against dsDNA, lymphadenopathy, glomerulonephritis, and decreased viability.
