PREP is not working

Article Abstract:

Two nurses give conflicting views on PREP, personal development for nurses. One believes that PREP is not meeting its aims to ensure that standards of knowledge and competence remain as good or better than when nurses registered. She also believes the PREP currently will not facilitate the monitoring of those registered. The other believes that PREP fosters high standards of care as it keeps members focused on personal development.

Auditing the PREP standard for ensuring fitness to practice

Article Abstract:

The UKCC intends to audit compliance with the PREP(CPD) (Post-registration education and practice continuing professional development) standard from April 2001. A proportion of nurses who renew registration will have to supply evidence of learning and how this relates to their commitments. The audit will focus on the use of learning in work.
