Pain relief in palliative care

Article Abstract:

Pain management of cancer patients is an important part of the work carried out by palliative nurses, although research has shown a small minority of patients are still being failed by pain relief management techniques. Palliative nurses must be meticulous in their assessment of pain relief needs, taking the overall well-being and mental state of the patient as guide to the level of pain relief required. Unpleasant side-effects and distress can be avoided by using pain relief management techniques along side assessment tools to gauge the type of pain relief needed.
