Papillary and follicular thyroid carcinoma

Article Abstract:

Papillary and follicular thyroid carcinoma is a relatively benign tumor that is highly curable. It usually occurs as a nodule in the thyroid and may be accompanied by hoarseness, cough and shortness of breath. Fine-needle aspiration can confirm the diagnosis. Surgery is the most common treatment, followed by iodine-131 treatment and possibly radiation treatment. Patients should be followed up with physical exams and ultrasound if necessary. About 80% of patients will have a low risk of death and 5% to 20% will have a recurrence of the tumor.

A closer look at follicular lymphoma

Article Abstract:

The normal B cells that have the t(14;18) translocation in healthy persons might be primed to proliferate by surface immune receptors and are found to be closer to follicular lymphoma. The findings reveal that the stimulation of t(14;18) B cells through their surface immunoglobulin receptors might contribute to malignant transformation.
