Patient safety measure headed for Senate floor

Article Abstract:

The U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee unanimously voted to establish a certification system for patient safety organizations that collect data related to medical errors, and also prevent such data from being used against physicians and institutions in court cases. Whether the legislation will be now go to the floor for discussion and a possible vote.

House passes patient safety legislation

The House of Representatives passed the patient safety legislation, promising to allow physicians to report medical errors without risking being punished based on the information they provide. This would create a confidential medical error tracking system that is attractive to physicians and patients.
