Remove gag rules

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Assn opposes gag rules imposed upon physicians by managed care and health plan insurers. Physicians' primary duty is to be an advocate for the patient. Some health plans prohibit physicians from discussing medical treatments that are not covered under the patients' health plan. Physicians should keep accurate medical records, appeal the decisions of insurers and maintain communication with the patient.

'Time forms' aren't the solution to frustrating waits

Article Abstract:

Patients become frustrated when they have to wait longer than 10-15 minutes and managed care companies keep track of longer waits. Physicians may need to see an emergency patient who will cause long waiting periods for the scheduled patients. It is important to realize these difficulties can happen to anyone and that many waits are caused by paperwork needed by managed care companies.
