Peak performance

Article Abstract:

An audit study undertaken at Edinburgh Healthcare National Health Service Trust aimed to improve the management of pressure area care by putting the CRAG guidelines on pressure area care into practice. A working party of district nurses and nurse representatives from the home equipment service, clinical development and audit decided to adopt the Braden scale, with the Scottish guidelines for classification of pressure sores being selected for use in the community. It is clear that a preventive approach to managing pressure sores will play a key role in ensuring that community nursing is cost-effective.

Unity in practice

Article Abstract:

An examination of existing policies formed the basis for the revision of pressure sore prevention and wound management policies at St George's Hospital Group in London, England. The new policy aimed to provide knowledge and theory derived from the most recent research, along with practical advice to ensure that staff can give consistent care. Nurse specialists involved in developing the policy put together a comprehensive education programme. There is continuous monitoring of pressure sore incidence within the hospital trust, and local audits are being carried out in the community.
