Pediatric surgery

Article Abstract:

Doctors discuss various types of childhood diseases and injuries that are amenable to surgical treatment. They include cancers such as Wilms' tumor and neuroblastoma, trauma, and abdominal injuries. Some large medical centers have transplantation programs for children. Many birth defects can be detected in the uterus and the baby can even be operated on before it is born. These birth defects include abdominal wall defects, bowel obstruction, hiatal hernia, obstructive kidney disease, and neural tube defects such as spina bifida.

Pediatric surgery

Article Abstract:

Surgery can be performed on newborn babies who have congenital diaphragmatic hernia, esophageal atresia, Hirschsprung's disease, necrotizing enterocolitis, imperforate anus, and congenital hyperinsulinism. The development of very small instruments means surgeons can perform minimally invasive surgery. Surgery can also be done on fetuses before they are born.

Pediatric strabismus

Article Abstract:

A case-study of a healthy 3-year-old boy with a 6-month history of strabismus in his left eye is illustrated. The child should receive a cycloplegic refraction as he has a new-onset esotropia and strabismus surgery will not be indicated until the amblyopia is fully treated and only if the eyeglasses do not fully correct the esotropia.
