Pediatricians warned about student athletes' risky weight- control tactics

Article Abstract:

Student athletes are indulging in unhealthy activities or risky weight-control behaviors by restricting food intake, vomiting, over exercising, using diet pills and using nicotine to lose weight and gain muscle mass. New Policy from the American Academy of Pediatrics provides detailed guidelines for healthy weight loss that physicians can use to educate patients, parents and coaches.

Guideline for end-of-life care released

Article Abstract:

The American college of Physicians has issued guidelines that could be of use to physicians involved with end-of-life care. It suggests regular assessment of patients for discomfort that could affect quality of life given the enhanced medical facilities leading to longer life span.

Despite benefit, physicians slow to offer brief advice on harmful alcohol use

Article Abstract:

The importance for policies that will control and create awareness among individuals on the harmful effects of alcohol is discussed. The role of primary care givers in advising patients about alcohol abuse is also advocated.
