Pelvic actinomycosis: a review and preliminary look at prevalence

Article Abstract:

Actinomyces is a normal component of the female genital tract and do not necessarily indicate that a woman has pelvic actinomycosis. Pelvic actinomycosis is a fungal infection caused by an organism called Actinomyces. Studies have shown that many women have Actinomyces in their genital tract, even women who are not using an IUD. Even when the organism is found in women with an IUD, it does not necessarily mean she has actinomycosis. Consequently, there is no need to remove the IUD in the absence of infection. Most women probably don't even need to be treated.

The maternity blues in western Nigerian women: Prevalence and risk factors

Article Abstract:

The prevalence of maternity blues is investigated along with the risk factors involved in a group of Nigerian postpartum women. Results suggest that the prevalence and the significant risk factors for maternity blues seem to differ across culture, and the obstetricians and midwives have to consider this in strategies for prevention and management of postpartum depression in new mothers in this environment.

Prevalence of sexual assault history among women with common gynecologic symptoms

Article Abstract:

Common gynecological symptoms are associated with increased risk of sexual assault history for women in the general population. A meta-analysis of three large general population surveys was conducted to determine prevalence of women's sexual assault history in relation to complaints of dysmenorrhea, menorrhagia, and sexual dysfunction.
