Performance measures and clinical outcomes

Article Abstract:

A study that evaluates the association between performance measures and clinical outcomes in routine hospital care provides inadequate data since the findings capture information about only a small portion of the overall care delivered during a hospital stay. A practical method to reduce uncertainty about the effectiveness of treatments is to collect comprehensive patient, treatment, and outcome data suggested by multi-disciplinary clinicians treating the types of patients studied.
