Positively older

Article Abstract:

HIV in older people is more common than previously perceived, according to 'A Crisis of Silence', a report by Age Concern Greater London. One in around 1,000 residents of 50 years or over has HIV in the UK, and the number of older people with HIV has probably been underestimated at 11%. The notion that HIV and AIDS is a problem concerning young people is dangerous and incorrect. In a survey of nurses and doctors in Birmingham, UK, 50% did not think HIV and AIDS were a problem concerning older people.

Safe practices

Article Abstract:

New draft EC legislation on protective clothing and equipment will create safer working conditions for nurses in the UK. Health managers will have to choose clothing suitable for the environment and employees to control particular health and safety risks. Such protective equipment will include gloves, barrier creams and X-ray aprons. However, managers will need more guidance to interpret the new rules, which are complicated in parts, according to Sarah Copsey, a COHSE health and safety officer.
