Postnatal iron status of Hong Kong Chinese women in a longitudinal study of maternal nutrition

Article Abstract:

This article examines the iron status of Chinese mothers living in Hong Kong up to six months after childbirth. Findings indicate that postnatal iron status recovery is more affected by physiological than dietary factors and that blood loss during childbirth plays a significant role in the development of postpartum anemia.

Iron status of premenopausal women in two regions of Bangladesh: prevalence of deficiency in high and low socioeconomic groups

Article Abstract:

This article compares iron status and the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia among women from different socioeconomic groups in Bangladesh. Findings indicate that socioeconomic status significantly influences iron status and that iron deficiency anemia is more prevalent among women from low socioeconomic groups.

Special postpartum dietary practices of Hong Kong Chinese women

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the nutritional benefits of the traditional dietary practices of 51 postpartum Hong Kong Chinese women. The iron content of 'ginger vegetable soup' is discussed.
