Potential health effects of the dietary flavonol quercetin

Article Abstract:

The antioxidant quercetin and other flavonoids may play a role in the reduction of the risk of coronary heart disease along with insignificant cancer prevention effects. Epidemiological studies with these conclusions contrast with experimental animal studies, with the latter showing inhibitory effects of flavonols on tumor development. Attempts to explain the discrepancy may relate to the dose and type of carcinogenic insults involved in animal studies and the short follow-up period.

Beta-carotene, vitamin E and vitamin C in different stages of experimental carcinogenesis

Article Abstract:

Experimental studies indicate the potential preventive effects of antioxidant micronutrients, including vitamins E and C, in the progression of carcinogens in cancer victims. The inactivation of carcinogens is vital in preventing irregular cell growth as their activation is directly related to the growth and progression of cancerous cells.
