Protein restriction and progression of chronic renal failure

Article Abstract:

Past research were examined to determine the effectiveness of protein restriction on chronic renal disease. Some studies claim that the commonly used medical regimen does not delay progression of chronic renal failure. However, analysis of results using standards such as factor of delay revealed the limitations of these researches. Existing data support the fact that protein limitation actually retard the rate of renal disease progression. Low protein diet (LPD) diminish the risk factors of chronic renal disease incidence. As a result, individuals are encouraged to adhere to LPD in the early stages of the disease.

Heretical thoughts about food hypersensitivity: small bowel manometry as an objective way to document gut reactions

Article Abstract:

Small bowel manometry can play a valuable role in obtaining reliable information about gut reactions. In this way, it can be established whether people who believe that they are suffering from food hypersensitivity have genuine physical problems. Manometry can identify intestinal dysmotilities linked with the ingestion of foods which are believed to produce allergic reactions or intolerances. However, it is important to adopt a multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of food intolerances.

Diagnosis of food hypersensitivity

Article Abstract:

Objective diagnosis of food hypersensitivity is important since the only treatment is avoidance of the causative food. Food challenge tests and elimination diet are necessary to confirm the diagnosis of food hypersensitivity on the basis of patient history, in vitro tests, and skin tests. Double-blind placebo-controlled food challenge tests are necessary for adequate confirmation of the diagnosis.
