Predictors of weight reduction in obese children

Article Abstract:

The characteristics of successful and unsuccessful weight losers were examined to determine the predictors of long-term obesity treatment outcome. Baseline data show insignificant differences between the two groups. However, at the end of one year, successful weight losers were found with less body weight and lean body mass in addition to lower food consumption and nutrient intake compared to the control groups. The predictors of treatment outcome were identified as change in mother's body mass index and decreased food and nutrient intake in the early phase of the therapy. Analysis of results and its implications were discussed.

Reliability and validity of the Family Eating and Activity Habits Questionnaire

Article Abstract:

One of the main problems facing obese children who want to lose weight is exposure to unsuitable foods in the home. A new study tests the reliability and validity of a new instrument for monitoring environmental changes linked to weight loss and for identifying the factors that encourage childhood obesity. The Family Eating and Activity Habits Questionnaire is seen to be reliable and consistent and can be used as an extra tool for planning childhood weight loss programs.
