Predisplacement and postdisplacement factors associated with mental health of refugees and internally displaced persons: A meta-analysis

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to meta-analytically establish the extent of compromised mental health among refugees using a worldwide study sample and the potential moderators of mental health outcomes were examined including enduring contextual variables and refugee characteristics. The result suggested that the sociopolitical context of the refugee experience is associated with refugee mental health.

Prevalence, severity, and unmet need for treatment of mental disorders in the World Health Organization World Mental Health Survey

Article Abstract:

The World Health Organization World Mental Health Survey to estimate prevalence, severity and treatment of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders is presented. The findings indicate that reallocation of treatment resources could substantially decrease the problem of unmet need for treatment of mental disorders among serious cases.

Psychiatry as a clinical neuroscience discipline

Article Abstract:

The findings from genomics and brain imaging would transform psychiatry as a clinical neuroscience and lead to treatment of mental disorders as disorders of the brain. It is argued that psychiatry's impact on public health would need that mental disorder be understood and treated as brain disorders.
