Preventing abuse of the NHS

Article Abstract:

A nurse discusses consequences of new restrictions in National Health Care entitlement. While she agrees it is important to stop abuse by foreign visitors, she feels denying benefits to retirees who have been abroad for more than 6 months is unfair since they have paid taxes to support the National Health Service all of their working lives.

Nursing care for patients with incontinence, particularly older patients, usually consists in choosing the right containment product rather than treating the cause of incontinence. The author examines proposals for improving incontinence care of the elderly in the United Kingdom.

Rehabilitation and continence promotion following a stroke

Stroke affects about 100,000 people in England and Wales each year and many of them also experience continence problems. Measures are given which all nurses can take to promote continence in patients following a stroke.
