The rebirth of Randolph

Article Abstract:

The Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority's (RRHA) renovation of the Randolph section of Virginia's capital is acknowledged as the highest achievement by the agency. People of every economic class have already found residence in the 76-acre wide once-depressed area. So far, 582 units of the planned 777 have been finished. The project's combination of diverse styles and functions that include both private and public housing units for families and the elderly brings together these people in harmonious co-existence. Aside from providing housing to low- and moderate-income families, the project also promises economic prosperity for the city of Richmond, VA. Sales from the homes, revenues from taxes and related businesses that include trade and construction are expected to bring in as much as $8 million to the city's economy. The project is the result of the joint cooperation among RRHA, the city and state governments, private lenders and local developers.

Preventing disabilities

Article Abstract:

The BOA (British Orthopaedic Association) proposes a new system to improve skeletal trauma treatment. Improved care would result in fewer disabled people. One in every 64 people in the UK suffers serious fractures. The BOA wants to establish district accident centres to serve in between 200,000 to 500,000 people. Each centre would have 4 orthopaedic surgeons offering a 24 hour service, radiography services and an on-line CT scanner linked to a neurosurgical unit. There is a shortage of trauma specialists in the UK.

A refuge for the disgruntled

Article Abstract:

Canada's West Coast has traditionally been the chief relocation option for Canadians who wanted to redefine themselves. This cultural ethos has shaped British Columbia's political landscape. Today, some Western Canadians mimic Quebec's leaders in calling for separation from Canada.
