Primary HIV infection education: Knowledge and attitudes of HIV-Negative men who have sex with men attending a public health sexually transmitted disease clinic

Article Abstract:

A report is presented which describes knowledge of primary HIV infection (PHI) and attitudes toward health care-seeking behavior for symptoms consistent with PHI in men who have sex with men (MSM). Result reveal that increased symptom recognition, health care-seeking behavior, and routine HIV RNA testing are needed if PHI screening programs are to have meaningful impact.

Prevalence of and risk factors for tuberculin positivity and skin test anergy in HIV-1-infected and uninfected at-risk women

Article Abstract:

Many HIV-infected women do not react to a tuberculin skin test for tuberculosis just as many HIV-infected men do not. In a study of 1,343 HIV-infected women who were tested, 41% had no reaction to the test, a condition called anergy. Only 12% of 390 HIV-negative women did not react to the test.

Qualitative and quantitative PCR measures of cytomegalovirus in patients with advanced HIV infection who require transfusions

Article Abstract:

HIV patients who have low CD4+ T cell levels and high HIV RNA levels are at risk of becoming infected with cytomegalovirus. The level of cytomegalovirus appears to be directly linked to the level of CD4+ T cells and a previous cytomegalovirus infection.
