Primary care scheme aims for partnership in practice

Article Abstract:

Primary care nurses in the UK have the opportunity to improve standards of primary care through the proposal of a primary health care pilot scheme. The NHS (Primary Care) Act 1997 encouraged health care workers to develop new models of health care to cater for particular health needs. The intention of the Act, through the pilot schemes, is to create more flexibility due to a team approach and the redefining of a clinician's role and funding where appropriate. Applicants should submit their applications for local and central evaluation by Nov 1 1997.

The case for breaking through ageism in mental health care

Article Abstract:

There has been a move to refocus mental health nursing on people with severe and enduring mental health problems over the past five years. However mental health nurses traditionally work with people with a wide variety of mental health problems and some of these patients are not classed as having serious and enduring mental disorders. This policy tends to exclude older people and should be broadened to include older people with disorders such as Alzheimer's disease.
