Primary panacea?

Article Abstract:

Although primary nursing and the humanistic principles upon which it is based have been widely endorsed in recent years, any relationship between primary nursing and either improved quality of care for patients or greater job satisfaction for nurses has yet to be proved. Furthermore, primary nursing can result in lack of privacy for patients and affect their autonomy as well as placing significant emotional demands on nurses. Consistent ward staffing levels, good communications and sisters and charge nurses with the ability to delegate are important requirements in a primary nursing system.

The ergonomics of seating - posture and chair adjustment

Article Abstract:

Much time is spent in a seated position and backs are condemned into forced flexion, or the slump. The discs are the weight bearing part of the spine and prolonged standing or sitting will cause discs to narrow, and over a period of time they may not return to their normal size. Comfort is important when choosing the right chair for the job or health professionals caring for the backs of other people. A well designed chair should provide lumbar support and rest chairs should offer support to shoulder level at least, maintaining natural lordosis.
