Primary pulmonary hypertension

Article Abstract:

Newer treatments are lengthening the lives of people with primary pulmonary hypertension. This condition is caused by high blood pressure in the pulmonary arteries. It affects 1 to 2 people per 1 million and some cases have a hereditary component. Elevation of blood pressure is caused by constriction of the arteries and the formation of blood clots that block blood flow. For this reason, the most effective treatments are vasodilators such as nitric oxide, epoprostenol, and adenosine as well as nifedipine and diltiazem. Anticoagulants and lung transplants have also led to improved survival rates.

Mars or Venus-is sex a risk factor for recurrent venous thromboembolism?

Article Abstract:

The identification of risk factors is essential for the management of a first episode of deep-vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. The studies on the risk factors revealed that the risk of recurrent venous thromboembolism is higher among men than women, because of the major risk of male sex.
