Principles of appropriate use of disposable gloves

Article Abstract:

When selecting gloves, certain factors needs to be considered such as the activities to be undertaken, the level of cross-infection risk associated with those activities, staff and patient sensitivity to the use of material used for glove. Gloves should be stored in an atmosphere with less than 65% humidity and appropriate temperature, and must be put on immediately before undertaking a procedure and removed immediately after it.

The safe use of children's toys within the healthcare setting

Article Abstract:

The environmental audits have shown that the toys kept in the healthcare settings are often contaminated with microorganisms and not subject to the recommended cleaning protocols. Evidence has shown that contaminated toys can increase the risk of cross-infection between children, so good hand-washing practice is promoted by the infection control team alongside education for healthcare workers, patients and their families.

Minimizing cross-infection risks associated with beds and mattresses

Article Abstract:

Health care associated infections are spread in a variety of ways with hand-mediated transmission accepted as the primary source of cross infection. Bed frames and mattresses are involved in outbreaks of infection, and it is very important that they be regularly cleaned using hot water and detergent or detergent-impregnated wipes, and inspected for damage.
