Progestins abrogate estrogen-induced changes in the insulin-like growth factor axis

Article Abstract:

Progestins appear to abolish some of the effects that estrogen has on insulin-like growth factors. This is significant because progestins are used in combination with estrogen in hormone replacement therapy. It is not known if estrogen's effects on insulin-like growth factor have any significance to health.

Estrogens, progestins, selective estrogen receptor modulators, and the arterial tree

Article Abstract:

The effect of estrogen, progestins, and drugs that mimic or block estrogen on the cardiovascular system is reviewed. Estrogen has a positive effect overall and most drugs that mimic the action of estrogen were created especially to maintain the benefits while eliminating the adverse effects.

Modification of plasma insulin-like growth factors and binding proteins during oral contraceptive use and the normal menstrual cycle

Article Abstract:

Oral contraceptives appear to lower the blood level of insulin-like growth factor 1, which could explain some of the physiological effects of OCs. Insulin-like growth factors are naturally occurring hormones in the body.
