Protein-based PCR for prion diseases?

Article Abstract:

Researchers are attempting to develop methods for early detection of prion diseases such as bovine spongiform encephalopathy and Cretzfeldt-Jakob disease. The misfolded prions responsible for these conditions are probably largely composed of N-terminal amino acids, and it is possible to monitor amplification of the acid signal following immunoblotting and protease treatment.

Gynecologic diseases get their genes

Article Abstract:

New mouse models of ovarian cancer and endometriosis are created to provide genetic insight into these two major diseases. The models created, help in studying pathogenesis of gynecologic diseases as well as developing chemopreventive and therapeutic treatment regimens.

Angiotensin II and EGF receptor cross-talk in chronic kidney diseases: A new therapeutic approach

Article Abstract:

The importance of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) transactivation during progressive kidney diseases is discussed. During chronic AngII infusion, mice with overexpressed dominant negative isoform of EGFR are protected from renal lesions.
