Pushing the message to Capitol Hill

Article Abstract:

The 102nd Congress passed several laws affecting the health care community during 1992. For example, the Higher Education Act provides loan deferments for medical students, and the Health Professions Education Extension allows federal funds to be withdrawn from residency programs that discriminate against foreign students. Regulatory changes were made as well. The Health Care Financing Administration loosened its strictures on new laboratories, and Medicare incorporated suggestions made by the American Medical Assn into the Fourth Scope of Work of its peer review plan.

Asian-American women are increasingly becoming a force in the medical community

Article Abstract:

Asian-Americans are the largest segment of women entering medical community behind whites where the number has increased by more than 50% to 5,994 students in 2001. It is believed that with the number of Asian-American women physicians increasing, the issues relating to women physicians such as flexibility in the workplace would gain momentum.
