Quid pro quo?

Article Abstract:

The use of financial rewards for workers who showed good occupational health and safety practice was found to be successful, with some workers receiving 96 pounds sterling as incentive payments. Lost time accidents were reduced to 19, by the end of Sept 1997, from 29, for 1995. The safety manager felt the new scheme had not been explained to employees in a way they could understand its aims. But he welcomed the simplification of accident data and the financial rewarded system. A previous incentive scheme, at the plant, had previously failed.

Investigative reporting

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that approaches to investigating workplace accidents differ significantly between companies in the UK. Some observers regard this situation negatively, emphasizing that there should be more consistency, with companies following the accident investigation procedures of companies with good safety performance records. However, others believe that variations in accident investigation procedures cannot be avoided. Indeed, they could even be positive, as each company needs procedures suited to its own particular circumstances.
