RIGing a virus trap

Article Abstract:

A report that retinoic acid-inducible gene I (RIG-I) induces type I interferon (IFN-alpha/beta) in several cell types infected with RNA viruses, but toll-like receptors (TLR) signaling, is dominant in plasmacytoid dendritic cells, highly specialized cells that make extraordinary high levels of IFN-alpha/beta is presented. RIG-I-deficient mice are generated in order to access the importance of RIG-I in regulating the IFN-alpha/beta response.

NKCC1 transporter facilitates seizures in the developing brain

Article Abstract:

The hypothesis that in the immature brain, before physiological expression of KCC2, alteration of the ionic basis for GABA-mediated excitation by diuretic drugs inhibits seizure activity in the immature brain is presented. Results provide evidence that NKCC1 facilitates seizures in the developing brain and indicate that bumetanide should be useful in the treatment of neonatal seizures.
