Railroad safety goes high-tech

Article Abstract:

Efforts to create more effective safety programs in connection with highway-railroad crossings have led to the development of technologically advanced systems. One such system is in use in Connecticut which consists of an obstacle-detection mechanism. This product was first used in Sweden and helps detect any obstruction on the tracks such as an automobile. Another mechanism, known as the vehicle-arrestor barrier, is under development. It prevents the entry of vehicles into the track after the closing of the gates.
