Realities of effecting change within medicine

Article Abstract:

Many doctors are frustrated by the current health care system and would like change to happen immediately. However, a complete revolution in the US health care system would be likely to hurt patients. More fragmented efforts for change are already taking place, but without a coherent policy these efforts can be wasteful and ineffective. Because many resources are already in place, working within the current system is the best way to accomplish health care change efficiently and without undue patient suffering.

Who said medicine was supposed to be 'fun'?

Article Abstract:

Endless paperwork and the demands of insurers have taken much of the satisfaction of practicing medicine from today's physicians. Doctors used to make personal sacrifices because of their sense that they were members of a noble and respected profession. Now, as their decisions are overridden by cost-cutting bureaucrats who question the independence and judgment of physicians, they have lost that sense of dedication which brought them to the field.

More to being a physician than degree in medicine

Article Abstract:

Practicing medicine is both a science and an art. The science of medicine basically consists of what is learned in medical school. The art of medicine involves caring for patients, not just treating their diseases, and being at patients' sides in the best and worst of times. The art can be learned from physician mentors and from practicing medicine at patients' bedsides.
