Regulatory T-cell development: Is Foxp3 the decider?

Article Abstract:

Four studies have used existing tools to show the genomic and functional consequences of nuclear transcription factor forkhead box p3 (Foxp3) expression, which contributes to the development of Treg by integrating environmental and intracellular signals. These studies have helped in resolving contradictory reports of varying mechanisms governing Treg differentiation and suppressive functions and have also provided novel immunotherapy strategies.

Effective cancer therapy through immunmodulation

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted on the use of tumor cells, tumor neovasculature, and host negative immunoregulatory elements, as useful immunotherapeutic agents against cancer. It is shown that the effective active modulation of the immune response with anticancer vaccines require proper identification and optimization of the T-cells and blockading negative immunological checkpoints that obstruct an effective immune response.

Immunotherapy: past, present and future

Article Abstract:

This article discusses the promise of immunotherapy for the prevention or cure of chronic infectious diseases or cancer and the impediments to this objective. Research shows that active immunotherapy is possible with vaccines and therpeutic monoclonal antibodies. However, host negative immunoregulatory mechanisms and host failure to identify tumor antigens hinder successful implementation of this strategy.
