Regulatory pressure

Article Abstract:

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the related Regulations apply to the structure and operation of hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers in the UK, but not to the treatments undertaken within such chambers. The Royal College of Physicians Faculty of Occupational Medicine Working Party issued a code of practice for operators of hyperbaric chambers in 1994, but this has no statutory force and the Health and Safety Executive does not recognize it as an approved code. It is clear that the regulation of all types of hyperbaric chambers for human occupancy must be undertaken by a single agency.

Publish your injury figures TUC tells business

Article Abstract:

Company annual reports should include details of financial losses to the company through injury and illness, according to proposals from the UK Trades Union Congress (TUC). These proposals aim to make significant changes to health and safety. The TUC also believes that there should be stricter penalties for company directors who contravene health and safety legislation. Other proposals include personal back-to-work plans for victims of workplace injury and illness.
