Can a double isotope method be used to measure fractional zinc absorption form urinary samples?

Article Abstract:

The use of a double isotope method for measuring zinc absorption from urinary samples is studied. Subjects were given oral and intravenous doses of two different stable isotopes of zinc. Comparison of results with true absorption obtained from faecal samples show no relationship between the two measures of absorption indicating that the double isotope method fails to accurately measure zinc absorption from urinary samples.

Lipid peroxidation in insulin-dependent diabetic patients with early retina degenerative lesions: effects of an oral zinc supplementation

Article Abstract:

A study on the influence of zinc supplementation on lipid peroxidation in insulin-dependent diabetic patients with early retina degenerative lesions reveal that zinc supplementation can normalize zinc deficiency in these patients. It also reduces lipid peroxidation and increases Se GPx activity. The influence of zinc can vary between patient with or without retinopathy.
