Responsiveness of quality of life measurements to change after reconstructive pelvic surgery

Article Abstract:

Women who have surgery for urinary incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse have lower scores on two quality of life questionnaires for incontinence. This is important because these questionnaires are used as an objective measure of the success of failure of a particular treatment.

Role of urethral electromyography in predicting outcome of Burch retropubic urethropexy

Article Abstract:

Electromyography can be used to analyze the function of the urethral sphincter, which in turn can predict which women with urinary incontinence will benefit from a surgical procedure called Burch retropubic urethropexy. The urethral sphincter is the anatomical structure that controls the flow of urine from the bladder.

A comparison of women with primary and recurrent pelvic prolapse

Article Abstract:

All women with pelvic organ prolapse should receive a comprehensive physical exam, not just those with recurring pelvic organ prolapse. Pelvic organ prolapse occurs when the pelvic muscles cannot support the pelvic organs. In a study of 181 women, those with first-time prolapse had similar physical characteristics as those with recurring prolapse.
