Risk factors for oral human papillomavirus in adults infected and not infected with human immunodeficiency virus

Article Abstract:

HIV infection may be a risk factor for oral human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Researchers obtained scrapings of mouth tissue from 178 HIV-positive and 109 HIV-negative subjects. Oral HPV was found in 32 (11.2%) subjects. Subjects infected with oral HPV were more likely to be HIV-positive, engage in unprotected oral sex, and be infected with other sexually transmitted organisms, especially Chlamydia trachomatis. Oral HPV without noticeable lesions may be more prevalent among HIV-infected people. The natural course of infection of oral HPV may need to be investigated in a more general population.

Herpes simplex virus type II is not a cofactor to human papillomavirus in cancer of the uterine cervix

Article Abstract:

Herpes simplex virus type II does not appear to increase the risk of cervical cancer in women infected with the human papillomavirus. This was the conclusion of researchers who tested cervical biopsy samples from 589 women for the presence of both viruses. None of the women tested positive for herpes simplex virus type II, even those who had cervical cancer.

Risk factors for rapid-onset cervical cancer

Article Abstract:

Risk factors for rapid-onset cervical cancer appear to be the same as those for other types of cervical cancer, according to a study of 278 women. Cervical cancer normally takes 5-20 years to develop, but some women develop it much faster.
