The key to profound local anesthesia: neuroanatomy

Article Abstract:

A detailed description of the distribution of the trigeminal nerve to the upper and lower jaws is presented to help dentists understand the different methods of anesthetizing the jaws. Topics include the PSA nerve block, the middle superior alveolar nerve block, the ASA nerve block, palatal innervation, inferior alveolar nerve block, accessory innervation, lingual nerve block, buccal nerve block, and mental nerve block.

Dental local anesthetics: alternative delivery methods

Article Abstract:

The advantages and disadvantages of four alternatives to a traditional dental anesthetic injection are reviewed. They are the intraosseous delivery method, the intraligamentary delivery method, the computer-controlled local anesthetic delivery system, and topical anesthetic patches. The traditional anesthetic injection does not work in about 15% to 30% of dental patients.

Avoiding complications in local anesthesia induction: anatomical considerations

Tips are provided to help dentists avoid complications from dental anesthesia injections. Complications include bleeding, hematoma formation, nerve injury, intraglandular injection, muscle trismus, and systemic complications.
