The impact of staff shortages on care delivery

Article Abstract:

A report on a study inspired by a vacancy rate of 13-14 percent in a Sydney hospital was presented which focused on the concerns about substandard care of both patients and staff. It was found that maintaining a model of care in times of staff shortages was challenging while some practical measures to improve care management in demanding conditions were suggested.

Do we need more qualified nurses in outpatients?

Article Abstract:

Two nursing administrators discuss the pros and cons of staffing outpatient clinics with health care assistants instead of nurses. One argues the view that assistants fill a gap caused by the nursing shortage, the other argues that more nurses are needed because health care assistants lacked needed skills.
